The worldwide current energy status is based on an unsustainable model
from the economical and environmental point of view. The fuel cell technology
allows the use of an efficient, clean and full fitted energy supply because hydrogen,
used as fuel, can be obtained from many sources. Although there are many kind of
different fuel cells, hydrogen PEM fuel cells show a good performance when used
for automotive or portable applications.
In this work were studied hydrogen Proton Exchange Membrane (Nafion 117)
Fuel cells fundamentals. It is a system designed to consume hydrogen and oxygen
to produce electricity, heat and water.
As a system, it needs different subsystems to make the power generation
possible; however, and due to the extension of work, that would make a study of
each of these subsystems, this project is based on the study of cell’s behavior
using steel electrodes Nafion 117 membrane and without it running on different
operating conditions. For optimization are discussed Key parameters such as: The
evolution over time the degree of conversion, X, Electric Performance, f, specific
productivity, h, and the specific energy consumption, Es, These figures of merit are
used to evaluate and compare the performance of hydrogen fuel cell.
