The Impact of Extra-Curricular Activities Focused on Research Training and Formative Research on 6th and 7th Semester Students of Modern Languages Program at University of Quindío

Abstract

This action research study was designed to address the existent issues regarding investigative gaps of Modern Languages Program of the University of Quindío. The idea was to implement and create an extracurricular space wherein the participants could be in touch with the research basic concepts; all this with 6th and 7th semester students from the mentioned major. These activities were developed for 7 weeks during April and May of 2018. The meetings were carried out once a week to work on activities designed to improve the participants’ research skills. Also, they had the opportunity to create their ideas and verify their viability. The participants culminated the action stage with a basic knowledge of what the preliminary stages of effectuating a research project are. Also, having a mental structure of how to execute a research project when they reach 8th semester, and they have to attend to the research seminar class, despite the existing gap between 6th and 8th semesters concerning investigation.

Esta investigación de acción fue diseñada para abordar los problemas existentes en relación a los vacíos investigativos del Programa de Lenguas Modernas de la Universidad del Quindío. La idea consistió en implementar y crear un espacio extracurricular en donde los participantes pudieran estar en contacto con los conceptos básicos de la investigación era el objetivo; todo esto con estudiantes de sexto y séptimo semestre del 4 programa mencionado. Estas actividades tuvieron lugar durante 7 semanas en los meses de abril y mayo. Las reuniones se llevaron a cabo una vez por semana para trabajar en actividades diseñadas para mejorar la conciencia investigativa de los participantes, también tuvieron la oportunidad de generar ideas y verificar su viabilidad. Los participantes culminaron la etapa de implementación con un conocimiento base de cuáles son los procesos preliminares para efectuar un proyecto investigativo, también teniendo una estructura mental de como ejecutarlo cuando ellos alcancen el octavo semestre de la carrera, y tienen que asistir a la clase de Seminario de Investigación; a pesar del vacío existente entre sexto y octavo semestre en cuanto a investigación se refiere.
