Colombian students’ lack of proficiency has been considered as an issue within Colombian Government education framework. For this reason, this project has been done in order to measure this situation. The first step was determining teachers’ help in the process of being bilingual. To do so, some surveys were applied to Normal Superior del Quindio and San Francisco institution from Chinchiná Caldas . The surveys determined that they do not get B1 or B2 because their teachers do not have them either. Nevertheless, another result was that when teachers have a good English level, they do not have a good methodology that can allow effective learning. Also, some teachers were interviewed and they agreed with this problem.

English Second Language students are constantly dealing with different issues to develop an appropriate performance of their audio-oral skills, so they often do not know what types of resources are needed to do so. This case study investigated the kind of strategies that can be useful to reinforce audio-oral skills in ESL students through independent work outside of the classroom. This study used a mixed research approach and was conducted collaboratively with the English teacher. The subjects of this research were 10 third semester students from the Modern Languages Program of the University of Quindio. The data in this project were in the form of observations, field notes, one speaking test, one listening test, each of them with different type of questions, and an online survey. The results of this research project showed that despite all the students recognize the importance of using different strategies outside the classroom, the majority do not spend the necessary time to improve their listening and speaking skills. This has particularly been reflected in the low academic performance of the tests.

In a globalized world, the need to know English is growing. Moreover, for most students it is now mandatory for graduation in most careers requirements. The problem is that everyone realizes this need but not everyone can do it. Not everyone has the mindset required to learn English. This is due to the way their subconscious mind is programmed. Here is where NLP gives us the necessary tools to reprogram our minds so we change own old thoughts about learning English. The main tool used in this project is called reframing, so named for its creators (Grinder and Blander) in the 70s, which Bandler and Grinder did was studying Virginia Satir: a family therapist, Fritz Perls: Psychotherapist , and Milton Erikson: Hypnotherapist, and describe precisely what they did to achieve those outstanding results.

This research is based on the creation and implementation of a didactic guide specially designed for non-bilingual teachers in third grade in a public school. This guide pretends to be an aid for the teacher whose level on the target language is not enough to teach it; that is why, it contains instructions on how they should teach the English language, but taking into account the CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) Method. This is a qualitative research in which the use of observation and interviews were important to its development. As a result, the teacher felt more confident because he knew how to carry out an English class with a clear sequence and entertained activities that made students be more engaged with the class and the learning of the language.

The main object of this research project was to be aware of how interaction is taking place in a bilingual pilot process in a public institution in the department of Quindío. Starting out with the observation of several bilingual classes with students of 4th and 5th grade it was possible to conclude that the bilingual pilot process in this institution is very immature. Nonetheless, teachers and students are making a huge effort for making this pilot process works. Besides, it was possible to establish that code switching is vital at the time of expressing any kind of speech in the second language as it is the body language, and the non-linguistic resources. This study was carried out with 72 students of a bilingual public institution taking all the data through the use of surveys for the teachers and the students and also several observations which gave important information for making strong conclusions. In this way was possible to find out that code-switching is one of the most common strategies used among teachers and students for expressing ideas and for clarifying instructions. Furthermore, the use of the mother tongue plays a very important role since despite the efforts of the teachers for fostering the use of the second language the students keep using their mother tongue as the main source of communication among them. In addition, the outcomes also showed that body language is essential for teachers and for students because this is the way that the two of them use for clarifying the ideas they want to express. Finally, it is remarkable to say that although teachers are making huge efforts for enhancing the linguistics skills in their students the results are not the best ones and teachers need to find another strategies and methodologies for fostering the communication in the second language inside the bilingual classes.

This research project is based on the lack of inclusion down children have experienced in the educational environment when learning English as a second language in fifth grade and a group of children of Abrazar foundation, because through making observations I was able to spot the huge gap that is present in classrooms between normal children and Down syndrome children or children with special needs. it is important to raise awareness in schools about the creation of policies which involve Down syndrome children into the academic environment because they are also a part of the educative community as well as to prompt teachers to make up new strategies or teaching techniques which are more suitable for the fulfillment of the needs Down syndrome children have or can be present when going through the process of learning English as a foreign language. It is fundamental to get the directives and teachers at schools generating new spaces and policies to get Down syndrome children deeply included in both educational activities and social activities at their schools which will benefit them both in the cognitive and social level.

This research project envisages the importance of the encouragement of the English vocabulary skill development by means of the implementation of the web tools, which is intended to enhance and develop this skill. Due to the nature of the research project, it was necessary the implementation of some instruments such as tests and surveys that were online. The research project was carried out with the collaboration of two populations. First, the populations of the University of Quindio, i.e. teachers, tenth semester students and graduates, and then, the population of 15 sixth graders from a public institution, the educational institution Baudilio Montoya. The sixth graders were subject to tests to diagnose their English vocabulary level while the surveys consisted of different structures and different purposes due to the fact that they were addressed to different populations. All data collected was crucial for the development of the research since both populations revealed the holistic perspective of the present panorama for the English learning and teaching processes. The results were evidenced not only within the implementation of the online tests and surveys but also during a period of socialization sessions. At some extent not all data collected was quantitative and it was necessary to implement means, diaries of class, to express the subjective factors and findings evidenced throughout the research project.

The present paper derives from an in-depth investigation conducted in Institución Educativa Libre with the primary goal of measuring the impact of the implementation of Project Work Method on eight grade students. Their oral skill is the targeted competence to be worked on. This study was motivated on account of the visible necessity of communication among different countries and the low performance at English proficiency regarding the oral skill. To be more precise, public institutions are the main focus. Similarly, a quantitative study serves as the basis of this research. Therefore, observations, tests and lesson planning are applied so as to collect data which provides further information to be considered on statistical analysis. On the same subject, quasi-experimental design is included in the methodology for it allows the researcher to estimate the casual impacts of the intervention in the control groups. At the end inquiry, the positive impact of the implementation of Project Work Method on the students’ oral skill is evidence. The students’ final presentation reveals a truthful improvement in the students’ performance using touristic places as mean to assess what they have done throughout the whole learning process.

One of the main problems seen at the University of Quindío in some students in the process of a second language acquisition is the master of good academic writings of students, since the learning process of this skill demands a lot of practice and specially, a lot of feedback. The interesting thing about it is that most of the time, these writing problems are not seen only in the firsts semester students, but also in students who in semesters ahead. This thought is raised in order to get of the potential that technological means such as Internet and the cloud can give us to provide students a helpful online application in which teachers and students will be involve in a full environment that will help them to go deeper in this skill and improve it. It is hoped that through this mean, they can receive so much input (feedback) as be possible for identifying their mistakes and improve them. It is known as well that a lot student can feel no motivated when things do not go well. This project also has the task for students raise their motivation with mutual help. Additionally, both students and teachers shall wake up, we are in the technological age, we cannot permit us that neither students nor professors still feel uncomfortable or afraid when technology is decided to be applied to education.

One of the main concerns that exists with students from public institutions who are in the English learning process, is that actually they are not able to use the second language to communicate. Students do not reach the levels proposed by the National Bilingualism program (Programa Nacional de Bilinguismo - PNB). To make the necessary changes, new educative tendencies are available for educators, as the ones used throughout this Research project, audiovisual activities and tools for teaching English in working scenarios, but they are still applicable to any educative context.
